At the end of the day, drain your boiler.

It’s vital that when you’re leaving site for the evening, weekend or finishing up a job, it’s important that the boiler is properly drained down to remove any sitting water. All boiler units have a drain valve, this is usually located under the boiler itself. To drain the unit, simply open the valve and release any water. It’s important to leave this valve open until next use.

Don’t forget the shower end fixtures.

Ensure that all shower units and sinks are drained of water. Again, this is vital to the close down of the unit, making sure no sitting water is left in the pipes. Frozen pipes can be costly and time consuming to repair.

Supplies are important.

Make sure you have enough supplies of gas, water and electric. All too often we can forget the basic supplies, these are vital to keep the unit running at best capacity. It’s important to make sure you have adequate replacements or alternatives if supplies are run down or impinged.

Once out, leave out.

DO NOT relight your boiler if it is frozen. Trying to relight a frozen boiler can lead to a whole host of problems. Make sure it is adequately thawed out first before ignition. If in doubt, contact your regional Thermac depot for further advice from our highly trained engineers.

Heat it to beat it.

Frozen pipes can be a common occurrence, this happens when sitting water is left in the pipes due to insufficient drain down. Make sure any pipes are adequately defrosted by covering with hot water (not boiling) or left to thaw with a compatible heating unit.
