Dust extraction systems come in all shapes and sizes, some large and permanent, some small and mobile. More commonly used in commercial settings, dust extraction systems remove dust and particulates from the surrounding air to make sure air is safe to breathe continuously.

What’s the difference between extraction systems and units?

Typically, larger dust extraction systems have a series of ducting hoses which collect dust at the source and move it to a collection point through filtration to be correctly disposed. Properly working systems suspend dust and particulates in the air so as not to settle on the transit route to disposal. The system expels clean air back into the surrounding environment.

Thermac h class vacuums

Why do I need Dust Extraction Filters?

Simply, dust extraction filters remove dust and particulates from the air through a series of material filter passes. There are many kinds of filters for a range of different particulate and dust types and sizes, such as wood, paint spray, hazardous particulates and more. Typical filter types include HEPA filters, ULPA, Panel Filters etc…

What are dust extraction classes?

There are 3 dust extraction classes which are L, M & H. Each letter depicts the level of classification, L = Low, M = Medium, H = High.

L class offers a low level of ‘protection’ and are typically what you’d find in domestic vacuums. They are commonly used for low level dust extraction for particulates that are non-hazardous.

G4 panel filter

M class offers a slightly higher level of ‘protection’ than an L class. It’s typically the entry requirement for trades and on site use such as extracting concrete dust, fibreboard and other similar particulates. Although M & L class have a similar rate of suction, M class filtration is usually more efficient.

H class offers the highest rate of ‘protection’ and overall better in filtration and performance. Typically used in hazardous environments for the removal of miniscule fibres such as asbestos or for carbon filtration that can be harmful to health, they can also be used in M class environments for an added level of protection. They generally have better suction capabilities and multiple layer filtration.
